The ever so lovely Ros from Sew Delicious has invited me to participate in an “Around the World Blog Hop”. I couldn’t say no to her because I think she is bee’s knees and possibly even cat’s pajamas and also because why not?!
1. What am I working on?
I’m currently working on the endless pile of unpacked boxes, as we have just moved. Oh, you mean sewing related? I have only been able to tackle a few smaller projects lately (see reason above), once I get everything properly unpacked I am going to focus on garment sewing for my kids, as well as some decoration pieces around the house (like a wall hanging that says “If chocolate is eaten in the closet away from children’s prying eyes, do its calories still count?”) Since it’s about 500 degrees in the shade here in Taiwan, I’m looking forward to making some shirts out of this yummy double gauze fabric I got a few weeks ago.
2. How does my work differ from others?
Does it? I don’t know.. I don’t think I have yet developed my personal style and I don’t really want to end up stuck in any sort of a sewing niche, as I really enjoy trying out new projects and learning new skills (usually under a strict deadline with maximum of other plans happening at the same time). So hmm, it differs from others because hmm.. I’m the one who made it? Pass!
3. Why do I create what I do?
I love sewing with a passion! I hate making mistakes when I sew (which happens at least twice during every project.. sew on a sleeve wrong? check! Twisted bag handle? check! Cut a through a layer of fabric while ripping out a seam? Double check!) But even with the PG-13 language that comes out of the sewing corner and with all the frustration with not being able to transfer onto the fabric the idea I have in my head, after all that it’s MY time! It’s my opportunity to create, to make something that was not there before (sure, you can also say that about my children, but have any of my mini quilts ever pooped on the living room floor and ran off gleefully squealing? Case closed) I love seeing my kids in clothes that I have made or snuggling under a blanket that I put together, it may be selfish and very “toot my own horn” but hey, I’m the kind of gal that needs her dose of appreciation, alright? “Oh this ol’ thing? Yea, I made it a few weeks ago, almost forgot all about it”
4. How does my writing process work?
I get 30 minutes when nobody is tagging me on my pants, nobody is asking me for a glass of milk/chocolate toast/where is my truck/why is my sister wearing potty as a hat/why can’t we visit grandma right now/can I press this button? I’m going to press this button ……… In those 30 minutes I write whatever is in my head, quickly spell check it, press publish and dance around feeling more accomplished than I have in weeks! <3 Bam, masterpiece everytime!
So, I was supposed to get a couple of bloggers to take the lead on the blog hopping tour next week, but because it’s all about quality and not quantity, I present you with
Sarah from Berry Barn Designs , Sarah could lead an “Around the World” blog hop all by herself as she frequently moves around but she currently lives in Maine, USA where she quilts and crafts gorgeous things.
