We are continuing along with the Spring has Sprung week by Lil Pip Designs and Cass can Sew. As some of you may know, we are patiently (or not so patiently) waiting for the arrival of my nephew, who is due to join us anyday now! For awhile now, his gorgeous (she really is, it’s almost sickening and by sickening I mean, horay for the good genes on that side of the family!) mama has been on a lookout for reusable diapers (which are insanely expensive in the US, by the way). I had a stash of diapers left over from my son that we never used due to many reasons, one of the main ones being.. well I’m just not the “reusable diaper” kind of a mom. There, I said it! I think it’s fantastic that people do it and make it work, but just didn’t work for us. So, I wanted to pass on the stash (I think I had about 14 of them) and also make a cute portable basket to keep by the changing table.
My nephew’s nursery colors are teal, mossy green and gray (did I mention my sister in law is an interior designer? So everything in the house is very thought out, unlike some houses I know where traveling knick knacks are placed along antique findings sprinkled with legos, hot wheel cars and rattle toys) and I really didn’t want to have anything cartoony since it doesn’t fit her style at all.
I used Noodlehead’s Divided Basket Pattern to make it with a couple of tiny changes. The pattern is great, easy to follow, plenty of pictures and it’s such a useful thing, I love me some baskets! (They are great to stash things away when you don’t want to clean but must put away the clutter! Not that I do that, ahem)
Does the fabric look familiar? ๐ I love this print and it just screams out spring and new beginnings, plus the color combination is just what I needed. I reinforced the divider with a couple of hand stitches, just in case, let’s hope it will hold against the midnight diaper changes.
Hopefully this basket will find some use and I can’t wait to snuggle the little chicken over Christmas! Happy Spring/Fall!

Hi Ailsa. Thanks very much for your comment on my blog. A 'bikkie barrel' is a container of any description to hold your biscuits (cookies). The 'barrels' come in all shapes and sizes and can be a plain on plastic container or a ceramic cartoon character. This basket looks great. I love fabric baskets.
